There is still a good covering of snow on the uppoer slopes at Cairngorm Mountain.

The forecast is for blue skies to continue at the Cairngorm Mountain resort this weekend.

The ski area will be open although the snow is receding and the resort bosses have said they are monitoring the situation. No final day of the season has yet been announced.

Cairngorm Mountain chief executive Susan Smith told the Strathy: "The snow is melting fast and we may not be able to keep the ridge Poma for much longer.

"There remains good snow from the middle to the top.

"Skier numbers through the week are very small so we are not opening for skiing from Monday to Thursday next week. We are taking stock on a daily basis."

The snow report from earlier today stated that pistes had firmed up overnight and were likely to soften mid morning.

There is no suitable terrain for beginners.

There is no snow route back to the Day Lodge, and walking is now required both up and down to the mid station.

The forecast for tomorrow is another fine, sunny day with calm conditions.

The temperature is expected to be +5C at the top station.

A Cairngorm Mountain spokesperson said: "The M1 and Cas is also operating but a walk is now required to the mid station as we have lost significant amount of coverage on our lower slopes...

"Our ops team are doing a fantastic job at maintaining slopes on the mid mountain. Huge thanks to them for all their work."
