Nearly two decades of frustration in Carrbridge over a dangerous eyesore are about to come to an end.

Highland Council has finally confirmed it has compulsorily purchased the derelict Struan Hotel opposite the Landmark Forest Adventure Park.

And plans to demolish the once pioneering ski hotel and to create 10 modern and affordable flats in its place at the site are to go before the tomorrow's Cairngorms National Park Authority planning committee with a recommendation for approval.

The Struan was Scotland's first ski hotel.

It was bought by developers to convert into homes, however, the 2007 credit crunch meant they never materialised leaving the village with a blight at the prominent site.

The Struan –subsequently nicknamed 'The Ruin' by some locals – was opened by ski pioneer Karl Fuchs, a member of the 1948 Austrian Olympic team, and his wife, Eileen, in the mid 1950s.
