"We're excited to announce the return of the Beavertail observation saloon to the Highlands," said a spokesman for the railway buffs.

"Having been lovingly restored, the Beavertail will be officially launched at our gala on Friday, April 7.

"Over the gala weekend we'll have both steam and heritage diesel services running on an intensive hourly timetable.

"Customers holding Diesel Gala rover tickets will be fee to hop on and off all of the company's services, whether steam or diesel.

"The full timetable is being made available on the company's website."

Light lunches will be available on the 1pm service, with afternoon tea being served at 3pm, both from Aviemore.
