A nine hole golf course on the outskirts of Grantown has launched special rates to thank the local community for its support during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Craggan Golf Course has been able to re-open along with some outdoor activities offered by Craggan Outdoors, all in line with social distancing guidelines.

Season tickets for golf, football golf and disc golf are at the special rate of £95 which has been extended until the end of this month. Under 16s season tickets are £25.

Owner Fergus Laing said: “The support we have seen from the local community has been fantastic and as a thank you we want to extend the lower priced membership for the coming month.

"If golf is not your thing the fishing ponds are a beautiful spot to take some time out."

Meanwhile Boat of Garten Golf Club has been showing its support for the outstanding work being carried out by NHS and care home workers during the coronavirus outbreak.

The club is offering all health care and care home staff a round of golf this year for just £20, a significant reduction on the normal visitor fee of £55.

Vice captain Douglas Spencer initiated the idea. He said the key workers deserved some reward for the lives they have saved during the pandemic.

Mr Spencer commented: “We are all grateful for the dedication they have shown and for putting their own lives on the line for the benefit of us all.

"We hope that many of these brave workers will take the time to relax and enjoy a day’s golf at our course – they richly deserve it."

In addition to golf, club steward, John Mackie, will provide all NHS and care home workers with complimentary coffee and bacon roll before or after play.
