Strathspey community councils saved
Following the second round of community council nominations two more local watchdog groups have been added to the Strathspey and Badenoch strength.
In November insufficient names came forward to both Grantown and Dulnain Bridge organisations but following the second call for candidates wishing to serve their communities both organisations’ futures were assured.
Grantown, indeed, drew more nominations than their maximum membership, paving the way for an election which will take place on March 3.
The maximum membership of each of the Highland community councils is determined by the population it serves and varies from 7 to 13 members.
Ballot papers will be posted out on Wednesday, February 17. Young people aged 16 and 17 will be able to take part providing they have completed a registration form.
A total of eight community councils will not be established across the region, as they failed to attract half the maximum membership. The next opportunity for nominations will be confirmed at a later date.
In Badenoch, Laggan will continue without a community council. Instead, it has a village association.
Those who came forward at Grantown are: Lyn Boden, Janet Flannery, Fiona Mary Grant, Kenny Kinnaird, Barry Donald Main, Naomi Miles, Graham Allen Murray, Beatrice Oliphant, Bill Sadler, Suzanne Samuels, Charles Grant Sinclair and Ewan Sutton.
At Dulnain Bridge the new community councillors are: John Edward Bruce, Ewan Cameron, Ann Main Campbell, Malcolm Ernest Cooke, Donald MacDonald, Colin Ross Hill, Ron MacWilliam, Karin Margot Meyer and Charlie Whelan.
