'Full marks' are being awarded to SSE for the way they handled a power outage in Grantown after a lorry demolished an electricity box in the town.

Some properties in Grantown were left without power for part of Tuesday afternoon whilst emergency repair works were carried out by SSE.

Diana Glendinning posted on the town's social media: "Folk are always keen to complain but full marks to SSE for their response after the Co-op lorry demolished the electricity supply box outside our house.

"We were offered hot drinks at The Grant Arms and continually updated on the work progress.

"The power was back by 4pm by which time we were very cold as we have no other form of heating.

"Thanks for all the offers of help and especial thanks to the two gents who stood guard on the smashed box and live wires for over an hour in the freezing cold until an SSE man arrived just to make sure no one was electrocuted."

The power giant had laid on facilities in the local hotel for those affected.

Pamela Harvey, SSE spokeswoman, had posted on local social media a short time after the accident: "This is to notify people in Grantown that due to emergency electrical repair works by SSE this afternoon, power to some properties in the town will be off from 1.30pm for a few hours whilst this work is carried out.

"The Grant Arms Hotel will be open for residents and workers during this time, offering a warm space, tea, coffee and biscuits.

"Please do go along to the hotel if you need to keep warm whilst your power is off."

The Strathy had contacted SSE for details of the incident on Tuesday but did not receive a response.
