More than 140,000 young people across Scotland will receive their results tomorrow for their Nationals, Highers, Advanced Highers, Awards, National Progression Awards, and National Certificates.

This year, following the cancellation of the national examination diet due to Covid-19, grades have been decided by teachers and lecturers using assessments completed by learners.

These have followed the national standard set by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

A SQA spokesperson said: "Learners’ assessments were marked by teachers and lecturers and then checked by schools, colleges, training providers and local authorities.

"Unlike any previous year, learners were told their provisional results before they finished for their summer break in June.

"All learners will receive their results certificate delivered to their home address by first class post on Tuesday.

"Those who have signed-up for and activated their MySQA account will also receive their results by text or email from 8am that morning."

SQA will open its helpline at 8am tomorrow to answer learners’ questions about their result certificates.

Young people can also call Skills Development Scotland to speak to dedicated careers advisors about the options that are available to them.

Fiona Robertson, SQA Chief Executive, said: “The results they receive in August allow young people to make the next step on their learning journey; either continuing at school, moving-up to college or university, or entering employment or a workplace-based training programme.

"Like any other year, this year’s results will be recognised by employers, training providers, universities and colleges enabling young people to take the next step in their education and training.

"Undoubtedly, the past 12 months have been some of the most challenging for everyone working in Scottish education but especially for the thousands of young people receiving their results this year.

“I want to thank learners throughout the country for their work, and their dedication despite the incredibly difficult circumstances they have faced. Learners can have confidence in their grades, and rightly be proud of what they have accomplished this year.

“I also want to thank the thousands of teachers, lecturers, and support staff at schools, colleges and training providers across Scotland who have gone to exceptional lengths to support their candidates this year and help them achieve and deliver their results.

"Without them and their tireless contribution, we could not have certificated candidates this year.”

This summer young people can appeal directly to SQA for free.

They can appeal if they disagree with the academic judgment made by their school, college or training provider in awarding their grade, or they believe there has been an unresolved administrative error when the grade was sent to SQA, or when SQA processed their certificate, or they believe there has been discrimination.

Details on how to register an appeal can be found here

The SQA’s Candidate Advice Line can be reached on 0345 279 100, and runs from 8am – 6pm tomorrow, and from 9am – 5pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
