Firefighters are still tackling the wildfire the Strathy reported on after three o'clock this afternoon, as smoke billowed in forest land to the south side of Loch Morlich in the Cairngorms National Park.

It's reported that Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are on hand at an area 30m by 100m area of forestry in the Rothiemurchus Lodge area.

The alarm went up just after 2pm today and wildfire units from across the strath were soon making their way to the site.

"The first sign of it came just after two o'clock," said Keith Taylor at Loch Morlich Watersports after three o'clock, "and we've watched the smoke rise and thicken over the last hour.

"Difficult to say exactly where the fire is on the south side of the loch but we don't think it's anywhere near a proper road.

"The emergency services might have quite a trek to get to it.

"The good news is that at least there's no wind..."

More information as it comes in.
