A shock report on spending in Scotland has placed Strathspey third on the table of the hardest-hit areas.

Social Investment Scotland's report this week stated that Scots' debit card use had revealed that Covid-19's economic impact had been worst felt in Oban, with a 68 per cent drop, while Golspie and Brora had registered a hit of -61 per cent.

Aviemore and Grantown were equal third on the table with a minus figure of 58 per cent.

"It is no surprise to see Aviemore and Grantown near the top of this table," said Cairngorms Business Partnership chief Mark Tate.

"Businesses right across the Cairngorms National Park have been devastated by the impact of the shut down of the visitor economy.

"It is such a big part of our lives, it touches all of us.

"Whilst many businesses have received some level of support from Government schemes to help, many have fallen through the cracks and will need support for sometime to come if we are to recover from this devastating blow to our economy.

"Businesses in the Cairngorms are entrepreneurial and resilient and are working hard to ensure they can welcome back visitors in July in a way that gives confidence to communities, employees and visitors."
