It's a White Christmas in Badenoch and Strathspey for 2023

As predicted – or promised, say the young ones – snow is falling across the strath, having started in earnest just after Christmas lunch for many.

As Santa arrived in the build-up, with parades in Aviemore, Grantown and Kingussie, the weather was certainly moving into wintry phase.

There were good crowds in all the marches and spirits were high from the outset, with the Badenoch and Strathspey Pipe Band leading the way through the Gynack Gardens as a goodly crowd gathered opposite the Duke of Gordon Hotel.

"Thank you to everyone who came to see him, enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies and donated so generously," said a spokesperson for Kingussie and Vicinity Community Council.

"Big thanks to the Duke Of Gordon Hotel, Highland Horse Fun for the van and all the helpers who set up, made and served mulled wine , provided music ,cleared up and made it all possible.

"Merry Christmas!"

Santa's here: he made it in good time for the torchlight parade in Grantown and Frances Porter caught him going from the Triangle to the Square.

There were also great turnouts at Grantown and Aviemore, where Santa was warmly welcomed on a chill night which was clearly heading to some white stuff for the big day.
