Routine dental care in high street practices in Scotland has just been suspended because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

NHS Highland is telling patients with such appointments not to attend for check-ups and other dental treatments at their local practice.

A health authority spokeswoman said: "Patients should telephone their practice on their usual number. Their dentist will be able to give them advice, including on taking pain relief or prescribe antibiotics.

"If the dentist confirms that a patient has an urgent dental need, and if the individual does not have any symptoms of Covid-19, they will be offered an appointment at an urgent dental care centre.

"If an individual is experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 they will be contacted by staff from the designated Covid-19 urgent dental care centre."

Patients are being informed if they feel they have an urgent dental need outside of normal working hours then they should contact NHS24.
