Strathspey Thistle manager Robert MacCormack has stood down from the job with immediate effect.

MacCormack announced last week that he would be departing the Grantown Highland League club at the end of the season.

However, following last night's 10-1 drubbing by Brora Rangers at Seafield Park he has decided not to wait and left the post this morning.

He said: "I felt at the time (last week) the best thing to do was the let the club know I was leaving at the end of the season.

"But I now feel it's the right to move now and let Strathspey Thistle look at what's best for the future of the club.

"It has been an amazing experience and one I feel that has made me a better manager and coach and there are plenty of positives to take away.

"Obviously, it has been a huge challenge and sometimes it has been difficult to take but overall I would say it has been a good experience.

"I'd like to thank Strathspey Thistle for giving me the opportunity to manage in the Highland League and thanks to Mike Rae and Robbie Flett for all their help and all the players who have shown such great commitment to me through-out."

The Jags conceded eight goals in the second half against Broara Rangers last night.

It is not yet known who will step into the caretaker manager's role at Seafield Park with the Jags hosting Keith this Saturday.

MacCormack cited ‘family and personal reasons’ as key factors in his decision last week not to renew his contract.

But he said then he was willing stay on at the club for their remaining 11 league fixtures or until a replacement was found for him.

The Jags have won just one Highland League game all season but are expected to avoid relegation as none of the clubs in serious contention for promotion from the feeder leagues meet SFA requirements to make the move up.

He arrived at Seafield Park towards the end of February, last year, after being first team boss of North Caledonian League side Alness United.

He was initially assistant coach to Brian Ritchie before making the step up just two weeks later.

During his successful two and a half years spell at the Easter Ross side, he won the Ness Cup in 2021 and worked closely with the club's youth academy to develop graduates from their under-18 set up.
