Highland Council issues roads report for Badenoch and Strathspey

Difficult conditions are being reported across the strath following the plummeting temperatures and heavy snowfalls over night.

Highland Council posted at 08.46 this morning that negative road and air temperatures were being recorded along with overnight snow of 2-3cm lying on top of varying levels of ice.

The UK Met Office currently has a yellow warning for further snow and ice across the Highlands.

A spokesperson said: "The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.

"It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling."

Road condition reports for today in neighbouring areas are as follows:

Inverness at 06:31: A light covering of snow on roads with some ice on road surface. Crews are covering all routes and footpaths.

Lochalsh and Ross and Cromarty West

Posted at 09:03 Snow, sleet, hail, rain and frozen roads are causing difficult conditions this morning across the west coast. All routes arebeing treated with a heavy salting.

Ross and Cromarty East

Posted at 08:33 Road surface temperatures are below freezing across the network this morning. No issues reported on Primary routes but there are reports of hard packed snow and icy patches on secondary and other routes with rain and light snow showers falling on frozen roads. All routes being treated this morning.

Caithness

Posted at 08:05 Sub-zero temperatures recorded on all routes, with a good sparkle and icy patches. Black ice is on the roads around Lybster and Westerdale with rain falling on frozen surfaces in a few isolated areas. All routes are being treated as necessary with no other issues reported.

Sutherland

Posted at 08:25 Conditions across roads are very icy generally with rain, sleet and snow falling on frozen surfaces and readily forming ice. Treatment ongoing on all routes. There are no other known issues.

Skye and Lochalsh

Posted at 08:41 Icy patches are affecting routes in Skye and Raasay last night and this morning particularly Minginish, Braes, Portree, Raasay and South Skye. Treatment is ongoing across Primary and secondary routes and Other routes/ footpaths affected by ice. Driver caution is advised on all untreated roads.

Lochaber

Posted at 07:49 Zero road surface temperatures recorded with a keen frost and icy patches. No overnight issues reported. Treatment is on-going on all routes.

Nairn

Posted at 08:45 Negative road and air temperatures. There was an overnight covering of snow on top of varying levels of ice creating difficult conditions.
