From Monday (29) Highland Council will be in a position to resume birth registrations.

"As birth registrations have been suspended since late March, we have a backlog to work through" a spokesman said today (Thursday, June 25), " and it is important that we register these events in date order wherever possible."

Approximate timescales are:

Week commencing 29 – for babies who were born before and up to April 5

Week commencing July 6 – for babies who were born between April 6-May 3

Week commencing July 13 – for babies born between May 4-31

Week commencing July 20 – for babies born between June 1-28

"Please contact the office in which you wish to register the birth of your child, during the suggested week above.

"The staff will discuss an appropriate time for you to register.

"Your appointment will mainly be conducted by telephone, however you will be required to attend the office to sign the register page.

"The registrar will arrange a time for you to do this, and will explain the protocols in place for your appointment."

Details of the registrar offices and telephone numbers are available on the Council website.
