The Reform UK Scotland party are planning to contest the Scottish Parliamentary elections by fielding a regional candidate to represent Strathspey on the Highlands and Islands list.

The party was launched in January is led by former nurse, Michelle Ballantyne MSP. It plans to have a candidate on every regional list in Scotland.

A spokeswoman for Reform UK Scotland said: "We are delighted to announce that Reform UK Scotland has arrived in Strathspey and will be fighting the Scottish Parliamentary Elections on Thursday May 6, fielding candidates on every regional list in Scotland.

"We are a new party that seeks to give people a genuine choice when casting their votes – to reform our political system and to take Scotland down a new, more prosperous path. Our message is simple – we are pro–UK, pro–personal freedom, and pro-reform of our institutions."

She continued: "2021 is a pivotal year for Scotland. Our already sluggish economy has been devastated by the lockdowns; our education system is failing our young people; our freedoms are being eroded; while our tolerant culture is under threat from rancour and division. May’s elections provide a chance for change – a chance to save Scotland.

"Our key message going into May’s elections is protecting the future. Failed political decisions over the last twelve months mean our economy and jobs have been decimated, our small businesses are collapsing, our young people’s futures are bleak, while our country faces a new health threat from the mounting undiagnosed illnesses, delayed treatments and broken mental health.

"We will work to balance protecting our most vulnerable with providing opportunities for our young people. Scotland used to have one of the best education systems in the world leading to brilliant futures for our young people – now the challenges are harder. There is another way. Together, we can stand up in May and say enough is enough.

"Our candidates are not career politicians but real people with backgrounds and experience from all walks of life.
