The reminder signs are part of a Highland Council project to provide more space for people to walk and cycle safely keeping to 2m social distancing which is being rolled out across the region.

The Space for People project is concentrating on the main centres of population and tourism - including Aviemore - but the signs are being erected in villages and towns across Badenoch and Strathspey.

A Highland Council spokesperson said: "In Aviemore the main focus is addressing narrow footpaths, the limited space for queuing outside shops in the village centre and the risks to public safety from vehicles speeding through Aviemore.

"To help address these issues as part of the Spaces for People project new route signage and stencil and spray paint road marking will start to appear to remind people about the 2 metre social distancing and work will be done to help widen footpaths where possible.

"This may include the temporary suspension of some on-street car parking and bus bays to provide walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users more space to access shops and to be able to safely travel around the centre."
