Fears for the future of the Royal Bank of Scotland’s mobile services in the strath have been allayed.

After concerns were aired on social media, the Strathy was asked if it was aware of any scheduled plans for the winding down of the service.

One local charity, Open Arms Community Support, posted: “We have been contacted by a local regards The Royal Bank Of Scotland closing their mobile banking in some or most of our villages.

“One of our team has looked it up and this does look like it is possible that the mobile van is at least temporarily closed.

“We hope this isn’t true but thought we would make you aware if it is true.”

No announcement had been made by the bank to that effect.

An RBS spokesperson has now told the Strathy: “We are happy to confirm that we are not winding down the service.

“We sometimes have to pause the service because of staff absence, or servicing requirements for the mobile bank itself, but we ensure that our branch locator (online) is updated with the latest details.”

The mobile service was expanded in the strath after RBS controversially axed its branches in Grantown and Aviemore in late spring 2018 as part of cost-saving measures much to the dismay of local customers.

RBS’s operating profits were more than £3500m for the previous period.
