Monday will see bids close on the ebay sale of a rare European Cup Final soccer programme which belonged to a true man of Kingussie.

Bobby Nield, former footballer himself – said in his time to have played in every position with Inverness Caledonian – died in March, but only a lifetime of community work, including the establishment of a project to highlight the life of 'Scotland's most evil man', the Wolf of Badenoch.

That project is now coming together, as organiser John Robertson said this week: "We have Caithness slabs on order for paving the courtyard to Talla nan Ros and in time we hope to have the funds for a special sculpture which will take pride of place in the Wolf's name."

Some of those Phase II funds could be found on Monday through an e-bay sale of one of the late Mr Nield's extensive collection.

His wife widow, Shirley, told the Strathy: "Friend Alan Dawson has Bob’s programmes from when he started his first ‘business’, aged 13, and Dawsie recognised this as being a rare one so suggested it be sold for the Wolf Project.

"The work is about to start on the outside of Talla, putting down Caithness slabs, then the fund-raising is going to start for Helen Denerley’s Wolf statue.

"Fingers are crossed for a good sale on Monday."

Bobby had a lifelong passion for football and with brother Fred embarked on a professional career, Bobby at first with Inverness Thistle in 1965 but soon after moving to the rival Jags.

He made a brief move to Forres Mechanics but returned to Caley in 1971 and played there until he retired from the game in 1976.

He believed he was the only person who played for Caley in every position.

Monday's programme was published for the 1960 European Cup final between Eintracht and Real Madrid at Hampden and is down officially as a "souvenir pirate" copy.

It is described as in good condition.
