A Strathspey estate has responded to public concerns by banning camper vans and caravans along one of its roads.

After a truck left a ridge of aggregate on Monday along the edge of the lane between Dalfaber Road and Aviemore railway station, Seafield and Strathspey Estates explained the action had been taken after calls from locals.

The estate’s website stated: “We are committed to the principles of good management, conservation and maintaining positive relations with our local communities.”

The calls had followed stays by several camper vans and caravanners utilising the rough surface just off the west side of the road.

On Tuesday the estate’s property director David Greer told the Strathy that he had received reports from one or two local residents about visitors parking very close together and not abiding by official coronavirus social distancing guidelines.

He said: “They asked the estate if we were going to do something about it.”

He added that several anglers had an arrangement to use the stretch for their own parking: “The fishing season doesn’t have long to go now, but we will arrange something more permanent which will allow cars through for parking, while blocking access to the larger vehicles.”
