A 17-year-old youth has died suddenly after becoming unwell at a house in Inverness.

Police said Bailey Matheson Munro passed away at a property in the city's MacLennan Crescent, after the alarm was raised at around 7.55 am on Thursday.

Emergency services attended but the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that Bailey had close connections with Grantown and had attended school in the town.

A police spokesman said: “A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the cause of death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

“However, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

“Enquiries are continuing and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Detective Constable Gary Hines said: "Our thoughts remain with Bailey's family at this very difficult time.

"They have asked that they be given privacy and I would ask that their wishes are respected."

A group of friends have launched an online crowdfunding page to celebrate his life.

It stated: "As many of you know, our Bailey has tragically passed away.

"There is nobody like Bailey. He is the most kind-hearted, beautiful soul. Bailey truly had a heart of gold. Anything anybody needed, Bailey would go out of his way to make sure it was done. The most cheekiest boy but you could never be mad at him… his smile could light up a room…

"Thank you so much to all."

Ruth McEneaney said in a lovely tribute on the GoFundMe page that she had taught Bailey in S1 at Grantown Grammar School.

She said: "You are a student I always talk about to this day. And I will always talk about. I remember talking about the merits of uniform and you said the job you wanted didn't need one. I asked what it was and you said a vlogger. It made me smile. My heart is broken that you might not have gotten there. I'm sure you'll be stealing the show wherever you are now."

More than £3000 of the £5000 target has been raised already. Donations can be made here.
