FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon shocked Scotland and the political world this morning when she announced her surprise resignation.

Although she has been under growing pressure in recent weeks – amid controversy over the broken pledges to dual the A9 and A96, and continued rows over the Gender Recognition Reform Act – her personal and party approval ratings remained far higher than would usually spark a resignation crisis.

Political figures from across the party spectrum have rushed to pay tribute to her, and speculation is already rife as to who might replace her – with Highland MSP Kate Forbes among the early front-runners.

Surprised Inverness residents have also been having their say when stopped by our team in the streets.

But what do you think? Was Nicola Sturgeon right to step down as First Minister? Do you agree, disagree, or are you maybe still undecided? Take our poll and let us know!

Who do you think should replace her? Let us know on our social media channels at Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and via our email address at newsdesk@hnmedia.co.uk.
