James Brannan has not been seen since late Saturday afternoon.

Police are continuing to make door to door inquiries and checking outbuildings in Aviemore as the search for missing pensioner James Brannan continues.

Officers were calling at households in the Dalfaber area of the village this morning as concerns grow for his welfare.

The 72-year-old was last seen late on Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of the Spey Valley Golf Club.

He is understood to have been watching the Six Nations rugby in one of the clubhouses in the vicinity. Mr Brannan's local is understood to be the nearby Dalfaber Golf and Country Club.

He was reported missing on Tuesday (February 8) and extensive police enquiries have been ongoing since this time.

Searches have been ongoing in the area with specialist and local officers supported by partners from HM Coastguard and at times the Cairngorm and RAF mountain rescue teams.

The Search and Rescue helicopter has been brought in to assist with the search including over the River Spey which borders the golf club.

The HM Coastguard chopper has returned to the village this morning to provide support.

Sergeant Craig Johnstone, who is based at Aviemore police station, said previously: “We are growing increasingly concerned for James the longer he remains missing.

“I would urge anyone who has any information or who believes they may have seen him at any time since Saturday afternoon to get in touch.

“Given the recent weather I would also urge anyone who lives locally and has a shed or outbuilding where someone could seek shelter to check this and report anything out of the ordinary to us."

Mr Brannan is believed to have been wearing blue jeans, a dark winter jacket and walking boots.

He is described as being around 5ft 10in tall and of thin build with medium-length grey hair and a grey beard.

Anyone who has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact 101, quoting reference number 1601 of 8 February.
