Witnesses reported observing a 'chase' this afternoon in Kingussie and the reported arrival of sniffer dogs.

The Strathy received calls relating to someone running from the railway station after alighting from a train round about two o'clock.

"A guy was running down Station Road," said one caller, "with two police officers running after him. We don't know what it's all about."

A little later a dog was seen being taken from a cage in a vehicle and being led off in the same direction by Kingussie High School.

The school, in common with all others in the area, is currently closed due to the Covid pandemic, with pupils forced to carry on their studies at home via the internet.

By 5.30 tonight a Police Scotland spokesperson had confirmed: "Around 2.30 pm police attended Kingussie Train Station in an effort to speak to a 30-year-old man with regard to an ongoing enquiry.

"However, he made off from police through the town but was stopped a short time later.

"Enquiries are continuing."
