The Cairngorm mountain rescuers have received a very helping from a team of resourceful Grantown students.

They reecently handed over £3,000 thanks to the Youth Philanthropy Initiative which aims to spread awareness of the work of third sector charity organisations amongst young people.

To do that, the Grantown Grammar School pupils were tasked with carrying out research and to make contact with charities in their local area.

The pupils then had to make a formal presentation to a panel of invited guests who then decide on which charity they think is worthy of a donation.

Headteacher Claire McGonigal said: “This year there were seven different charities represented, in a number of different and informative ways.

Some groups used props to explain the work of their charities while others used a very topical and musical rap!”

In the end, it was the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team which emerged as this year’s winner.

They were very well represented by Rhona Scott, Paige Gray and Eilidh Neillie-Rutherford, who were presented with the cheque.

The trio met with Duncan Scott, a volunteer with the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, to present him with the ‘winnings’.
