A major outdoors retailer has made the Cairngorms more accessible to those living in the Central Belt and even England.

Go Outdoors has just published its 'favourite places to camp' and has moved the famous range from its traditional home to Fife on the map.

It is one of a number of errors in the publication which has been picked up on by social media users.

John D Burns, who posted the map and started the thread, said: "Great news Go Outdoors have moved Glencoe and the Cairngorms further south!

"The Cairngorms are now near Dunfermline and Glencoe is in Killiecrankie.

"Think of the saving for folk driving up from England!"

But Grantown author Chris Townsend, however, is not happy: "I demand the Cairngorms are moved back!"

Where did they go? We want the Cairngorms returned from the south.

Rob Mills posted: "Ooh, good timing, we're off to our field sites in Feshie on Monday, would have ended up way further north than that if I hadn't seen this update."

John D Burns later posted: "The Munro Society are all for moving Snowdonia to Caithness. That means any folk who have completed the Munros would have to do another 15.

"VisitScotland are for it all too though I got a rather terse reply from the Ordnance Survey using some unusual language for a public body."

Magpie stated: "I should be able to see the Cairngorms when I open my bedroom curtains. I’m going to be so disappointed if they aren’t there."

Benarmine is not complaining: "Bloody brilliant, I now live in the national park. I'm off up Braeriach from my front door then."

Davie thinks he knows what has happened: "Pesky fault lines. Always shifting."

The Strathy contacted Go Outdoors yesterday for a comment but has yet to receive a comment.
