Concern is growing that inconsiderate parkers are causing serious problems at Tromie Bridge on the scenic route from Kingussie to Kincraig.

The local community council has been approached after parked cars caused a wood lorry's stranding for several hours this week and action is being urged by residents and other road users.

One Drumguish resident lobbied the watchdog group this week to point out that the situation has been steadily worsening for some time: "Around 30 years the road on approach to the bridge from the Insh direction was widened specifically to aid the turning of large vehicles.

"This entailed land purchase, tree felling and significant earth works, followed by the widening of the blacktop. "Additionally, a No Parking sign was erected and a section of the carriageway had yellow hatching painted over it to indicate this area to be kept clear to enable large vehicles the necessary manoeuvring space. All no doubt at considerable expense for Highland Council.

"After several years the signage became obscured by the growth of vegetation and the road surface paint wore out. The hatching as never been reinstated and the signage is only occasionally cleared therefore parking there has become the norm.

"Consequently incidents like today's are not to be unexpected.

"Recently one lorry trying to avoided poorly parked vehicles hit the bridge causing damage to the structure. The resulting repairs an extra cost to the overstretched budget of Highland Council, not to mention the inconvenience caused by disruption to transport whilst the work was carried out."

A social media post tonight by former community council chair Deidre Falconer stressed it was a spot where No Parking meant just that: "Inconsiderate people, who have been ignoring this sign, have been causing problems for wood lorries trying to turn on to Tromie Bridge heading towards Kingussie. One lorry was stuck here for hours on Tuesday!

"Kincraig and Vicinity Community Council have received complaints regarding this ongoing problem, and both the Highland Council Roads Department and the Police have been informed."

Mrs Falconer was pictured speaking with drivers as they returned to their vehicles.
