FOUR fresh cases of Covid-19 were detected across the NHS Highland health board area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of known cases since the start of the pandemic rose from 5211 to 5215 when Public Health Scotland published its latest daily update on Thursday.

There were 464 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since yesterday’s update, representing 1.8 per cent of all tests in the country over the past 24 hours.

Eighty-three people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night – a fall of 15.

Of those, four were in intensive care. This was down two from Wednesday’s update.

And no fresh deaths have been reported among people who previously tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were once again no fresh cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

A dozen new infections were detected in NHS Grampian, for a running tally of 15,434.

And there were 34 new cases in NHS Tayside, which has now detected 15,064 infections.

There have been 233,671 confirmed cases of the virus across Scotland since the pandemic began.

More than 3.17 million people have now received their first vaccination shot, and over 1.94 million have had their second jag.
