NHS Highland area's confirmed number of coronavirus infections has passed 4000 mark for the whole pandemic after the Scottish Government's latest daily figures added 42 fresh positive tests for Covid-19

MORE than 4000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have now been detected across the NHS Highland area since the start of the pandemic – after another 42 positive tests were recorded overnight.
The region’s cumulative number of cases rose from 3987 to 4029 when the latest daily figures were released on Wednesday.
Thirty-seven people were being treated for the virus in the region’s hospitals last night – up four from Tuesday’s update. Eight of those were in intensive care, a figure unchanged since yesterday.
Across Scotland there were 978 positive tests in the past 24 hours. This represented 5.1 per cent of all tests carried out in the past day.
The number of people being treated in the country’s hospitals for Covid-19 stood at 1871 last night – down 63 on the previous day.
Of those, some 128 were in intensive care – a fall of 12 on Tuesday’s update.
Sadly, a further 88 deaths were recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.
But in more positive news, almost 38,500 people received their first doses of the vaccine in the past 24 hours – the highest single daily figure so far. It took the number of Scots who have so far received at least one of their two injections to 649,262.
The daily vaccination figure was also up by some 59 per cent on the same point last week.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, the Northern Isles’ recent run without new positive tests continued overnight, while NHS Eileanan Siar’s cumulative total increased by one, to 197.
NHS Grampian detected 53 new cases, to take its running tally to 12,569.
While there were 77 new positive tests in NHS Tayside, which now has an overall total of 12,223.
Scotland has now recorded 182,269 positive tests for Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
