FIVE more people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 across the NHS Highland area.

The region's cumulative total has now risen from 1584 to 1589.

Some 692 new cases of Covid-19 were detected across Scotland in the past 24 hours.

Nine-hundred-and-eighty-three people were receiving hospital treatment for the virus last night – up nine on the previous day.

Of those, 57 were in intensive care, a fall of two from Monday.

And, sadly, 33 further people who tested positive for the virus have since died.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases reported in Orkney, Shetland or NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian reported 43 new infections, for a running total of 5233.

And NHS Tayside detected 46, to take its cumulative total to 6313.

Scotland's number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic now stands at 101,475.
