THIRTEEN new cases of coronavirus have been detected across NHS Highland.

The region's cumulative number of cases rose from 1589 to 1602 when the latest daily update was published.

Some 897 new positive tests for Covid-19 were recorded across Scotland in the past 24 hours.

There were 972 people receiving treatment in hospital for the virus – down 11 on the previous day.

And, of those, some 50 were in intensive care, which was down seven on Tuesday's update.

Sadly, a further 39 people who previously tested positive for the virus have since died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were again no fresh cases in Orkney, Shetland or NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian recorded 97 new positive tests, taking its overall tally to 5330.

And there were 64 fresh infections in NHS Tayside, which saw its cumulative total rise to 6377.

Scotland has now detected 102,372 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
