A DOZEN new cases of Covid-19 have been detected across the NHS Highland region for the second day in a row.

The region's cumulative number of coronavirus cases rose from 1669 to 1681 when the latest daily update was published.

Across Scotland there were 845 new positive tests for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

There were 996 people in the country's hospitals who were receiving treatment for the virus last night – down 16 from the previous day.

Of those, 45 were in intensive care – a fall of one.

But sadly a further 24 people who previously tested positive have died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland's recent run of days without new cases continued again.

However NHS Eileanan Siar recorded another infection overnight, to take its cumulative total during the pandemic to 89.

NHS Grampian added 86 new cases, for a running tally of 5812.

And NHS Tayside saw its overall total rise to 6761 after a further 38 positive tests in the past day.

Scotland has now recorded 107,749 confirmed cases since the pandemic first began.
