Four further Covid-19 cases have been detected in the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region's cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic rose to 421 when the latest daily update was published shortly after 2pm.

It came as Scotland recorded 156 new cases overnight to take its overall number of confirmed infections since the start of the outbreak to 20,788.

Sadly, one person who tested positive has died in the past day.

However, the number of people receiving treatment in hospital fell by six to 258 overnight. Five people were in intensive care with the virus last night.

Across other parts of the north of Scotland, there were no new cases reported in Orkney, Shetland or the Western Isles.

NHS Grampian added three further positive tests, to take its running total to 1942, while NHS Tayside reported four new cases for a cumulative tally of 2147.
