NHS Highland area records a further 25 cases of Covid-19

There were 25 new cases of Covid-19 recorded across the NHS Highland area in the latest 24-hour period, figures released on Saturday showed.

It took the area's tally since the pandemic began to 4842.

The Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland all saw no further cases identified in the last day, while NHS Grampian registered a further 34 cases.

Across Scotland, 639 new cases of the coronavirus were recorded, 3.4 per cent of the 23,284 tests carried out.

There were eight new reported deaths of people who had tested positive within the last 28 days nationwide.

A total of 479 people were in hospital yesterday with confirmed Covid-19, 38 of whom were in intensive care.

Meanwhile, in the NHS Highland area, a total of 122,534 people have received a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, 45.4 per cent of the adult population of the area.

That is above the national average of 41.1 per cent.

A further 14,519 people have also had a second dose, which equates to 5.4 per cent of over 16s – again beating the national average which currently sits at 3.4 per cent.

Nationally, 1,867,123 people have received the first dose and 156,250 have received their second dose.
