A pet cat shot in Newtonmore will retain the shrapnel after veterinary advice.

Katherine Scott, Bert's owner, has posted that it would be too dangerous to try operating to remove the pieces left in the animal.

Bert was shot three times.
Bert was shot three times.

"Our dear cat Bert has been shot three times early this morning or late last night in Newtonmore in the Glen Road area," she posted earlier today.

"We’re hoping he can get through but if you have any details that you think may help we would really, really appreciate it.

"The police have been informed so if you want to speak to us or them with any information it would be gratefully received."

Tonight Katherine released this update:

"Thanks so much for all the kind words and thoughts - he’s on the mend and the very kind staff at Strathspey Veterinary Centre and Veterinary Specialists Scotland have done an amazing job of looking after him.

"He’ll be keeping all the shrapnel as safer to leave than remove so luckily got away with some missing teeth.

"We are no closer to knowing what happened but glad he’s on the up."
