The plan will also involves the relocation of the existing recycling facilities at Granish to a nearby location.

The spokeswoman said: "The proposed facility will be used to receive approximately 7000 tonnes of waste collected in the Badenoch and Strathspey area.

"It is essentially an industrial building where waste will be delivered by our refuse collection vehicles and loaded into articulated lorries for delivery to waste disposal facilities elsewhere.

"These have yet to be identified. This is the most efficient way to process and transport the waste we collect in Badenoch and Strathspey."

"It is anticipated that the facility will be operational by the end of 2020."
