A PUBLIC meeting is to be held on preparations and the progress of a big money scheme to remove unsightly pylon lines from Strathspey.

Power giant SSE’s Vista project will see power cables undergrounded in place of the steel towers and power lines.

The landscape improvements are part of the mitigation measures for the go-ahead of the Beauly-Denny mega pylon line project.

The meeting has been lined up for November 13 from 6pm to 8pm at the Morgan Sindall Compound near Mains of Garten.

Local residents will be able to have their questions answered by members of the power giant team and their principal contractor, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure on the on-going work and plans.

An SSE spokesman said they are looking forward to welcoming residents.

SHE Transmission sought a proportion of a £500 million fund administered by the regulator Ofgem. The fund is available to mitigate the visual impacts of transmission infrastructure in national parks and national scenic areas. A SHE Transmission spokesperson said: “We identified the Cairngorms as an area where mitigation of the visualisation of transmission infrastructure was warranted.

Twelve kilometres of overhead lines and 46 transmission towers are being taken down near Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge.
