A new pharmacy has officially opened its doors in Newtonmore.

Strathspey Pharmacy first expressed their interest in opening new premises on Main Street in July 2019.

A joint consultation exercise was undertaken by NHS Highland and Strathspey Pharmacy to gauge support for the application in the local community.

A decision to grant the application was made NHS Highland’s Pharmacy Practice Committee (PPC) last year.

Alan Horsburgh, of Strathspey Pharmacy, said: “We are delighted to open our new pharmacy in Newtonmore.

"I want to thank the local community for their support during this process which has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We look forward to delivering high-quality pharmaceutical services in the area.

“The new pharmacy will service the community with the dispensing of medicines alongside delivering core services such as offering advice and information on health issues and providing patients with up to one prescribing cycle of their repeat medicines during out-of-hours.”

Ian Rudd, NHS Highland’s Director of Pharmacy, said: “I welcome the opening of the Newtonmore Community Pharmacy and the additional provision of pharmaceutical care it brings to the local community.”

Patients in Newtonmore previously had to travel to Boots Pharmacy in Kingussie for their prescription medication.
