The community team aiming to make a bid for Nethy Bridge's Spar shop, which closed in February through lack of footfall, has said that a private buyer has been found.

John Kirk, of the local community development company, posted today that the owners of the shop had accepted an offer.

"We had started crowd funding and raised £40,000 without trying" Mr Kirk stated.

"But we got a call to say they were accepting an offer on the shop late Friday."

The doors closed at the shop on February 15, when Andy Young called time on his 32 years' service to the community.

Custom at the stores and Post Office on Dell Road was just too low now to justify continuing, he said.

He said: “I’ll be 72 this year and that’s another factor, but the way things are with the cost of living and the deliveries now being made by the big supermarkets in the area, there was no choice for us but to call it a day.

“It’s very sad as I have enjoyed serving the community and have been very grateful for the customers’ support over the years, particularly after I developed the business from the wee corner shop my then wife, Katherine, and I bought initially, to the size and scope it is now.”

"Andy has been a great supporter of the village and ran a great village store. We wish him well in

the future," said Mr Kirk.
