A new church will open its doors in Aviemore this weekend as another in the strath holds its last ever service.

Hope Church Aviemore is new to the area while Dulnain Bridge Parish Church will be hosting its final worship this Sunday.

There will be a launch service for the Hope Church at its base in High Life Highlands’ Aviemore community centre the same day.

Pastor Kenny Rogan said: “Hope Church is here because we believe that God loves everyone in this area and offers genuine hope in Jesus to them all.

“There are other good churches in the area living out and sharing the message about Jesus.

“We are here to join them in that beautiful life and be another opportunity for locals who don’t go to church to engage with Jesus.”

He said that new churches usually had a period of preparation where they gather interested folks, get to know how the community ticks, and they had been doing that for the past two years. Covid has also delayed the big day.

However, he said they were now in the exciting position of launching the church this weekend.

Mr Rogan explained: “We believe church is a family you belong to, not an event you go to, so our church life includes lots of socials, prayer times, Bible discussions and activities throughout the week.”

He said the church gathering will be in the main hall at 4pm every Sunday and will be a modern form of worship. “Our music is more contemporary with piano and guitar rather than organ. We still love to sing and get into the Bible.”

Mr Rogan said: “These are warm, friendly times with noisy kids, lovely refreshments, and time to hang out. However, the best part of these times is that we get to enjoy worshipping God, praying to him and hearing from him through the Bible...

“At the moment, we’ve got almost as many kids as adults coming along. We really value these children and hope they love Sundays and engage with God.

“Most weeks, we have a time with everyone together, then a time where kids can go to the other half of the hall to have some age-specific teaching and fun.

“Once a month, we have a family service with everyone together for the whole time. We try to make this shorter and engaging for kids as well as adults.

“Whether you are old or young, Christian or passionate atheist, happy or hurting – everyone is so welcome to come along on Sunday, or any time after that.”

The subject for the first four Hope Church services is ‘Bin your plastic Jesus’.
