Long sections of single-carriageway are set for dualling by 2025.

The busy route is due to be dualled in its entirety between Inverness and Perth by 2025.

But with seven years to go until the deadline, the only section that has been newly upgraded is the section between Kincraig and Dalraddy, which opened late last year.

However, Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch MSP Kate Forbes believes the works remain “on track” and added that the contract for the next section to be upgraded will be awarded within just a few months.

She was speaking after an update from Keith Brown, the cabinet secretary for the economy, jobs and fair work.

Kate Forbes MSP said: “It was good to get an update from the Scottish government on the A9 dualling programme.

“The first stage has been completed between Kincraig and Dalraddy and I understand that the next section will be awarded in the next few months.

“The programme of works gives me confidence that the works are on track. The quicker the A9 is dualled the better.

“Whilst, of course, dualling makes it more convenient for drivers, the most important thing is that it makes the road is safer.

“Safety is paramount and that is why it is so disappointing that it has taken decades before any Government decided to invest in the A9.”
