Motormania organisers have presented a donation of £500 to the Grantown Community Fund.

It has been specially established to provide for those in the town suffering severe hardship as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ewan Sutton, chairman of the Motormania committee, observed the government’s social distancing guidelines while presenting the very welcome cheque to Karen Derrick, chief officer of Voluntary Action in Badenoch and Strathspey.

This year’s autumn event has also fallen victim to the virus.

Mr Sutton said: “We are very sad that this year’s event has had to be cancelled. Normally we make donations to local causes at the event in September but we felt that this community fund was in need of support now and are very happy to make this donation”.

Mrs Derrick, accepting the donation on behalf of the Grantown Initiative who act as banker, said: “This is a most generous donation by one of the town’s long-standing events.

"It is heartwarming to see how people here are pulling together when times get tough, and particularly so for some members of the community.”
