Miss Scotland told 'you were our winner anyway' after Miss World competition

Inverness's reigning Miss Scotland Chelsie Allison (26) has been told “you were our winner anyway” after her dream of becoming Miss World fell short at the competition in Mumbai.

But her supporters back home in the Highlands were dauntless in their support of the local heroine with dozens of messages posted online, most saying how she did both herself, Inverness and Scotland proud on Saturday.

Ms Allison was up against over 100 women from across the globe in the final rounds of this year's 71st Miss World competition after scooping the title of Miss Scotland in October.

But despite the Tesco Mobile retail manager not making the top 40 shortlist of the competition, she said she was still “filled with gratitude” to be a part of “such an incredible experience".

She said: "I am beyond grateful to have been given the opportunity to represent my beautiful country and have met all these amazing women from across the world.”

Ms Allison was fundraising for Highland Hospice and smashed the target she set by 1700 per cent accumulating more than £3400 on a Just Giving page.

The charity said: “So proud of you Chelsie, you’re a fabulous ambassador for Highland Hospice. Hope you’ve had loads of fun, what an amazing experience.”

Then her aunt Annette Elliott added: “Miss Scotland was stunning, well done Chelsie my lovely niece, you’re my winner” while Sheila Stirton commented: “You did Absolutely amazing, very proud.”

Pat Kozlowski saud: “Awesome Chelsie, you were our winner anyway” and Sharon Clegg said she “cannot wait to hear all about the wonderful experience and the people you met! Well done for getting this far Chelsea, you did yourself proud.”

Marianne Stewart congratulated her, saying: “Well done Chelsea!! The Highlands are SO proud of you!!!,” Ann MacLennan said: “You’re an amazing person Chelsie, so beautiful and you did Scotland proud.”

Linda Stirling summed it up saying: “So proud of you Chelsie! Flower of Scotland!”
