Revellers at a house party in Newtonmore left in the early hours of the morning to walk home

They were then offered a lift home by 24 year old Duncan Keiller of Clune Terrace, Newtonmore, who caught up with them in his car in the early hours of December 19, 2020.

But Inverness Sheriff Court was told earlier today that Keiller's vehicle had been off the road awaiting work being done to get it through its MOT and it should not have been on the road.

His offer was declined and a short time after he drove away, Keiller crashed the car on Newtonmore Road in Kingussie.

Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh said that police went to the scene but there was no sign of Keiller.

"He was found later in the morning wandering around Newtonmore. He was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment and was admitted."

The prosecutor added that Keiller gave a "no comment" answer when required by police to confirm who was driving.

Groundworker Keiller admitted driving with no insurance, no MOT, failing to identify the driver of the car and failing to report an accident.

Defence solicitor John MacColl said: "He drives 20,000 to 40,000 miles a year as he works all over the country. He will lose his job if he loses his licence."

Keiller was fined a total of £1210 and had his licence endorsed with 10 penalty points.
