Man to appear in court after three taken to hospital following New Year's Day crash on the A9 in Easter Ross as police issue witness appeal

A MAN is due to appear in court today in connection with a three-vehicle road crash in the Highlands.

Police have appealed for witnesses following the crash which happened on the A9 at Tomich in Easter Ross on New Year's Day.

Three people were taken to hospital following the collision which happened at around 5.15pm.

It involved a white VW Scirocco, a white Vauxhall Astra and a white Ford Transit van.

​Police said today that a 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with alleged road traffic offences.

He is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court today.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

The driver of the van, a 24-year-old man, and two women from the Astra, both aged 26, were taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital.

The 24-year-old man's condition is described by medical staff as being serious but stable. One woman remains in hospital in a stable condition. The second lady was discharged.

The driver and passenger of the VW Scirocco, both men aged 29 and 25 years, were not injured.

Police said: "The 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with alleged road traffic offences. He is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court Monday, January 2, 2023. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Sergeant Alasdair MacKay, Roads Policing Unit, Police Scotland, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash to contact police. Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 3333 of Sunday, 1 January 2023."
