A man has been killed and a woman suffered serious injuries in a crash near Carrbridge.

The 74-year-old driver, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene by Bogroy last night (Thursday) following the single vehicle accident.

The 73-year-old woman was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by ambulance for treatment.

The A938 from the A9 into Carrbridge was blocked in both directions after the accident which occurred at around 5.40pm.

The road was closed in both directions including at the Blackmount junction off the A9 as investigations got under way.

Fire applicances from Aviemore and Grantown and the community response unit from Carrbridge attended.

Fire crews remained at the scene for two hours.

A diversion via the A95 and Aviemore north junction was put in place shortly after emergency vehicles made their way to the crash.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called to a report of a one-car crash on the A938 near Carrbridge at around 5.40pm.

“Emergency services attended but the 74-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A 73-year-old woman was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with serious injuries.

“The road was closed for around five hours while crash investigations were carried out.”
