A MAJOR Highland road which is part of the North Coast 500 remains closed to traffic following a crash this morning.

The collision occurred on the A835 Dingwall to Ullapool road east of Garve at Loch Garve at around 11.10am.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said two of its appliances from Dingwall and Beauly were called out to the scene at 11.15am.

They said the collision involved a car and a motorcycle but had no information on whether there were any injuries.

The fire crews made the scene safe, and had left the site by 12.50pm.

However, the road still remained shut to all traffic at 4.10pm this afternoon – the time of Traffic Scotland's most recent update.

In its update, Traffic Scotland confirmed that the road remained closed, and urged motorists to "approach with care", adding that delays were expected.

Police have also urged motorists to avoid the area.

The closure's location at Loch Garve means motorists travelling between the west and east coasts face major diversions, either via the A890, A87 and A887 and through Invermoriston to the south, or up through Ullapool and on past Elphin before turning east towards Lairg via Rosehall in the north.
