Reports of the fire surfaced on local social media just over half-an-hour ago.

It is understood that the emergency services have been contacted.

Concerned residents living in Glenmore have been warning that there was a high risk of a major blaze because of camp fire being lit on the beach and in the woods at the popular spot.

A ban on camp fires was put in place earlier this week by the landowners Forestry and Land Scotland following problems last weekend.

Emergency services were called out on several occasions last Saturday and Sunday to extinguish blazes lit by campers.

There has been no official confirmation of the blaze from the emergency services.

The Strathy has contacted police and the fire service for more information on the incident.

Last night there were scores of cars parked in the woods at the beauty spot despite signs from FLS warning that no overnight parking was allowed. Signs also highlighted that people should only camp for one night by the loch.

There has been a rise in 'wild camping' in the strath and wider Scotland since lockdown restrictions were eased. This prompted Scottish Government Ministers and other public authorities to urge the public to respect the countryside.

Camping in The Forest has closed Glenmore Campsite until April 2021 citing safety and comercial pressures which has exacerbated the problems in the Glenmore area.
