After a long, dry Easter ‘holiday’ Avemore’s BP filling station finally got to sell some fuel again yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

The troubles began last Thursday night with an incident involving a lone visitor after the business had closed round about 11pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Strathy: “Around 11.25pm on Thursday, March 28 officers were called to Grampian Road, Aviemore, following a report of a disturbance and vandalism to a premises.

“A 22 year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The man is not believed to be from this area .

The Strathy was told that the attack had left the company needing a security check on the safety switch controlling the pumps.

That left Aviemore without its own fuel supply overone of the the busiest holiday weekends of the year.

Motorists, local and visiting, were left to fill up at the strath’s other filing stations: Dalwhinnie, Newtonmore, Carrbridge and Grantown.

Although the Marks and Spencer ‘Simply Food’ store carried on trading as normal - except for some ‘vile’ phone calls from frustrated motorists.

“It was pretty heavy stuff at times,” said staff members, “but what can we do? We just have to take the abuse.

“Fortunately that should all stop now they’re getting their petrol OK.”

The switch-on will also have eased the pressure on the other filling stations which had been forced to fill the gap during the enforced dry weekend at Aviemore.
