Hundreds of people began the new year by getting their fitness goals off to the perfect start at Loch Morlich near Aviemore at the weekend.

The fifth annual Loch Morlich Running Festival, organised by Sam Cairns of Fitnessat58° in Aviemore, took place on Saturday.

The ex-Team GB athlete kicked off the day with a group warm-up, before the 300 runners raced through Glenmore Forest towards Loch Morlich beach.

The running festival, which has grown in popularity over the years, offers events of approximately 5km or 10km.

Mr Cairns said: “I’m proud of all those who took part in our fifth Loch Morlich Running Festival, not to forget all the supporters that helped create a great atmosphere. It’s humbling to see so many runners from all abilities join, and I look forward to watching this event grow in the future.”

In March, Fitnessat58° will host its inaugural Wellness Festival at Aviemore Macdonald Hotel, where celebrity guests including Jason Fox, Gemma Atkinson and fellow ex-Team GB athlete Amy Williams will be hosting motivational seminars.

There will also be other well known speakers at the new event on March 4.
