The strath saw rail delays for a few hours from yesterday (Thursday, July 12) after lightning struck – more than once.

There was a signalling fault between Inverness and Carrbridge which meant trains were not able to run between Perth and Inverness until 21.22, when the line reopened.

The Strathy was told the disruption was due mainly to lightning striking multiple locations and sites.

Teams worked through the night to rectify the equipment but that meant there were still some minor issues today which led to services being delayed, along with a shortage of train crew.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to our customers who’ve had their journey disrupted due to the signalling fault near Carrbridge and completely understand their frustration when these things happen.

“Anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more can claim money back through our Delay Repay Guarantee.

"Just keep hold of your ticket and claim on our website or mobile app.”
